Creative Justice
Creative Justice is an arts-based alternative to incarceration for young people in King County, Washington. Youth then choose whether or not to participate.

Join us for First Fridays CD Art Walk at our Creative Cafe hosted inside the historic Washington Hall as we honor and celebrate revolutionary elder Mark Cook! This February, we’re highlighting the Seattle-born artist and activist whose work and wisdom continue to shape our community—and whose voice has also been shared through a special guest appearance on Recess. Stop by on Friday, 2/6, to experience powerful artwork, connect with local vendors, enjoy food, and gather in a space rooted in creativity, history, and collective care.

More on Billy and his art below:
In his own words, “My name is Billy Gumabon, and I’m an artist and organizer within the carceral system in Washington State. My art is the one place I have never been confined. While my body exists inside prison, my imagination and creativity gives me autonomy and allows me to move freely with every line I draw. Each piece is an act of resistance against isolation, against silence, against the idea that a person’s worth can be reduced to their worst moment. Art is my freedom and my way of remembering who I am and reclaiming my humanity. It allows you to breathe in a place that tries to suffocate. It is my reminder that creativity will survive and thrive anywhere, even in here.”
