This is how vintage finger waves get built on long hair. The hair is shaped while it is still soft and damp, and then clips hold each wave in place until everything sets and the form locks in.

The result is a long Hollywood wave with the depth and definition of a 1940s set, on length that most vintage references never had. It takes serious patience in the chair, and the payoff lands every time.
