Introducing a new spoon design from The Spoon Shoppe. The Serving Spoon is made with an oversized bowl to dish out plenty of your favorite meal. The bowl holds just a little more than a quarter cup. A fantastic piece to use with company or just because you like to look at it. Pictured in Spalted Birch for fifty dollars, same price for Big Leaf Maple. Carving spoons from spalted birch. Although it's not a very expensive wood, spalting can add dramatic colors and patterns. The Spoon Shoppe has some spalted wood in stock, but it's going fast. Tiger maple is a beautiful maple grain pattern. The grain direction -or lack of- makes it challenging to carve cleanly and means lots of time spent with a cabinet scraper and sandpaper to get a smooth finish. Because the grain has alternating hard and soft spots the sandpaper leaves a rippled feel to the spoon that matches its looks. An exceptional wood. Forty-five dollars, which includes shipping.
