Jason Dunkle - Steel Guitar

On this day in 2004, Jeff Newman, one of the best steel guitar players/teachers, died. In my early days of learning how to play steel guitar, I bought many of Jeff’s video courses and they helped me a lot. His wife, Fran, was a sweetheart. I had many conversations with her on the phone when I would call to order Jeff’s courses. She passed away in 2016. Back in the 80’s Jeff used to have a steel guitar boot camp at his house and the students would stay there for a week and study with him. I wish I could’ve gotten to experience that. I have friends who did. I know he helped a lot of people learn the steel guitar. I’m actually going through his Pedal Steel Techniques video right now for fun. It’s now on YouTube. I never met Jeff, but having went through most of his video courses, I feel like I knew him. If anyone has any Jeff Newman stories, leave them in the comments.
