The Jamaica Readiness Center is a historic Art Deco armory located in Queens, New York. Designed by architect Charles B. Meyers and completed in 1936, it currently serves as a critical training location for the New York Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion of the 258th Field Artillery and the 442nd Military Police Co.
Grand Light restored the Jamaica Armory’s luminaires, a wide collection of different wall sconces, ceiling fixtures, and chandeliers.
All historic brass fixtures were disassembled and hand cleaned to preserve the original oil rubbed bronze finish. With careful precision, the fixture accents were re-detailed and highlighted by hand in a polished brass finish. Each sconce was fitted with new shades, while the ceiling fixtures each received new white glass diffusers. Once the physical restoration was complete, each fixture was fully rewired with a new LED solution to fit each fixture’s individual needs, meeting UL 1598 standards.
Today, the historic fixtures are back home at the armory, glowing with improved lighting functionality and an enhanced historical ambiance.
