Before taking to a life onscreen, Taylor went through many occupations, including mining, lifeguarding, bouncing, and working on an oil rig-during which period he narrowly averted death during a shipwreck in the Indian Ocean. At the age of 24, Taylor enrolled in the Western Australia Academy of Dramatic Arts, committing himself to an acting career from there on out. He made his screen debut shortly afterward with an appearance on an episode of the drama series "The Flying Doctors" (Nine Network 1986-1993), and landed his first regular television role just one year later.
Taylor joined the Australian soap opera "Home and Away" (Seven Network 1988-) for a 20-episode stint, playing the scheming romancer Nicholas Walsh. Additional recurring roles followed, including a starring position in the crime drama miniseries "The Feds" (Nine Network 1993-96) as Superintendant Dave Griffin. Taylor soon found success on the big screen, appearing in major films like "The Matrix" (1999), "Vertical Limit" (2001), and "Ned Kelly" (2003). After batting around a handful of smaller parts on film and television, Taylor returned to center stage as the star of the crime drama series "Longmire" (A&E 2012-), playing the titular Wyoming sheriff who returns to law enforcement following the death of his wife.

Schoolteacher Elizabeth Ramey in the year 1924
Miss Ramey was a school teacher and a socialite of Alexandria, Virginia. Her name appeared in the local newspapers several times, particularly in the โAlexandria Societyโ section which was basically a gossip page detailing the lives of high society people. More photos of her in the comments.

My love affair with Mexican history is not over yet! I came across this photo while digging through various Mexican photographic archives and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to color it. This photo was taken by the traveling photographer Cruz Sanches in Yautepec, Morelos, Mexico. Perhaps some locals can help us locate this building, if it still exists.

Ruth Benedict, anthropologist and folklorist, in 1937. Known for her โpatterns of cultureโ theory and author of The Chrysanthemum and the Sword.
She received her bachelorโs degree from Vassar College and her PhD from Columbia University in 1923, where she found writing as her way of expressing herself. She was nicknamed an โintellectual radicalโ by her classmates. She later studied under and worked for the world-renowned anthropologist Franz Boas.
Benedict was president of the American Anthropological Association and also an important member of the American Folklore Society - she became the first woman to be a leader of an academic profession.
She can be viewed as a transitional figure in her field by redirecting both anthropology and folklore away from the limited confines of culture-trait diffusion studies by combining anthropology with sociology, psychology and philosophy. She studied the relationships between personality, art, language, and culture and insisted that no trait existed in isolation or self-sufficiency โ that all things connect together, a theory that she championed in her 1934 book Patterns of Culture.
In 1946 she wrote The Chrysanthemum and the Sword: Patterns of Japanese Culture. It was written at the invitation of the U.S. Office of War Information, in order to understand and predict the behavior of the Japanese in World War II by reference to a series of contradictions in traditional culture. This was a new departure for anthropologists, that of analyzing complex modern societies from a distance through interviews and reading the national literature and newspaper clippings. The book was influential in shaping American ideas about Japanese culture during the occupation of Japan, and popularized the distinction between guilt cultures and shame cultures.
One of Benedictโs colleagues, and closest friend, was Margaret Mead โ an influential and famous anthropologist. Her reports detailing the attitudes towards s*x in South Pacific and Southeast Asian traditional cultures influenced the 1960s s*xual revolution.
Ruth and Margaret got along well with their shared passion for each other"s work and the sense of pride that they felt in being successful working women while that was still uncommon. They were frequently known to critique each other"s work; they entered into a companionship that began through their work, but during its early period, it also had an erotic character. Both Benedict and Mead wanted to dislodge stereotypes about women that were widely believed during their time and to show people that working women could also be successful even though working society was seen as a man"s world. In her memoir about her parents, โWith a Daughter"s Eyeโ, Mead"s daughter strongly implies that the relationship between Benedict and Mead was partly s*xual.
