Thirty-two years ago, at 23 years old, I bought my first home.

I was a single mom. I was scared. I didn’t have a lake in my backyard or a swimming pool. What I did have was a little water fountain on my back porch.

That fountain became my place to think, pray, breathe, and dream.

I’ve moved more times than I can count, and every move has taught me something.

Where you live shapes how you live.

For me, water has always mattered. It grounds me. When life gets heavy, I find myself near it. It quiets the noise and reminds me what really matters.

That first home wasn’t my forever home. It wasn’t even my dream home.

It was my beginning.

Over the last 32 years, I made one intentional move after another. I used the equity from one home to help purchase the next—not because I was chasing a bigger house, but because each move reflected the season of life I was in.

Today, I have a lake in my backyard, a swimming pool where family gathers, and a place that fills my soul.

None of that happened overnight.

It happened because I was willing to take the first step when I was 23.

That’s why I encourage people to rethink their next move.

Don’t start by asking, “What’s my interest rate?”

Don’t even start with, “How much house can I afford?”

Start with this question:

“What kind of life do I want my home to help me create?”

Maybe it’s less maintenance.
Maybe it’s room for grandkids.
Maybe it’s being closer to family.
Maybe it’s a front porch where you can watch the sunset.

Or maybe, like me, it’s simply being near the water.

The best real estate decisions aren’t just about building equity.

They’re about building a life.
