Teagan Gaeta - winner of the 2026 Strawberry Sprout Grant! Teagan is the owner of Urban Roots at Langwater Farm located in North Easton MA. She has owned & operated the farm for the past three + years, but her connection to horticulture began much earlier. She grew up on my grandfather’s farm in Alfred, Maine,Langwater Farm—where she was introduced to agriculture at a very young age. Some of her earliest memories are working in the hay fields as a toddler, learning the value of hard work & the importance of growing food for the community. Today, her farm is centered around community involvement and education. They grow a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and host events that bring people together around agriculture. A large part of their mission is teaching children where their food comes from and giving them hands-on experiences in growing and caring for plants. Teagan has remained deeply connected to horticulture her entire life, continuing a family legacy while building something meaningful for the next generation.
Asma Yu - Winner of the 2026 Strawberry Sprout Grant! Asma is the owner of ASY Garden Design in MD. Originally a lawn and soil, this backyard landscape receives a lot of water runoff (pretty much a river!), we worked to create a functioning landscape to help better manage all the water it receives with a combination of a dry creek bed as the lowest point in the landscape (with a stone steppers pathway), and surrounded by new soil berms planted with native trees, shrubs, perennials grasses and groundcovers that will slow and soak up the water runoff! This conservation garden received the Montgomery County rainscapes rebate! Swipe to the end to see before. Even the plants newly planted, the swale and new plants have been a huge success in managing the storm water and several downspouts!
