This was in my May newsletter—if you're signed up, you get to see it twice! If you're not signed up, get on it!
It’s not lost on me that I’m lucky to live where I do. With Washington, DC and Baltimore both within reach, I have access to some of the best food around. If you’re from this area, you already know these two cities are very different, and neither claims the other.
I like to think of myself as neutral. Switzerland, if you will. But I will say this: the 40-minute drive to Baltimore is always worth it. We recently went to SeppiaBaltimore, and it was delightful.
Housemade pastas that you think about the next day.
Attentive, thoughtful staff.
A space that was originally built in the early 1900s as a Five & Dime (and yes, I’m guessing many of you remember those).
This is exactly the kind of small business I love to highlight. An experience that feels intentional from start to finish.
If you’re looking for a reason to head to Baltimore… there are many, but this is a good start.

Sometimes you read something and think, “Yep… she gets it.”
That’s exactly how I felt reading this month’s blog from Rebecca Gunter. Although, I always feel this way with Rebecca!
Rebecca is a brand strategist, founder of Stoned Fruit, and someone who tells the truth about what it actually feels like to build a business.
We’re going to talk about:
• Why overwhelm isn’t failure (even though it feels like it)
• Building a business that can actually sustain you
• And how to stay true to your voice while still growing

Today’s the day!
I’m sitting down with Gina Schaefer (founder of The Cool Hardware Company) on On the Front Burner. This is a conversation I’ve been looking forward to for so long! I sorta stalked Gina until she said yes 😍
Gina didn’t start with a grand plan. She started with a willingness to try, to learn, and to build something that actually mattered to her community.
And that’s exactly what we’re getting into today.
If you’ve ever:
1. Questioned your path
2. Pivoted along the way
3. Or built something without a clear roadmap
This one’s for you.

Some people set out with a perfectly mapped business plan.
Others start with an idea, a gut feeling, and figure it out as they go.
Next up on On the Front Burner, I’m talking with Gina Schaefer, founder and owner of 13 Ace Hardware locations. Her story falls firmly in that second category.
What started as one neighborhood hardware store turned into something much bigger: a business rooted in community, growth, and learning by doing and a book called Recover Hardware.
We’re going to talk about:
• Building something before you have it all figured out
• Growing with your community (not just in it)
• What it really looks like behind the scenes of entrepreneurship
