Ten years ago I took the leap to become a full-time musician. I had no roadmap, just a guitar, a lot of hope, and a willingness to learn as I went.

Here are six lessons that have made the biggest difference:

1️⃣ Collaborate with other artists. The best opportunities (and friendships) often come from creating with other rock stars.

2️⃣ Find an instrument you truly love. If you can’t wait to pick it up, you’ll practice without forcing yourself.

3️⃣ Busk and jam whenever you can. There’s no faster way to grow your confidence, musicianship, and stage presence.

4️⃣ Record with a local producer who genuinely loves your music. Someone who believes in your songs will help bring out their best.

5️⃣ Invest in the right equipment. You don’t need the most expensive gear, but reliable tools make creating and performing so much easier.

6️⃣ Have fun! It’s easy to get caught up in algorithms, streams, and numbers. The joy of making music is what keeps you going.

And maybe the biggest lesson of all…

7️⃣ None of this works without real human connection.

Every show, every song, every opportunity has come through people who cared enough to listen, share, invite, support, and believe in what I do.
