Some trainings stay with you longer than others.
Today our members came together for a training focused on life after AmeriCorps and navigating grief. The session was led by Akufuna, who shared his journey as a former AmeriCorps member and Deputy Director, offering honest insight as our members begin thinking about what’s next.
We also took time to reflect and share memories of Muriel, our AmeriCorps member that we lost this year. Muriel was an incredible leader in our program. She showed up with intention, care, and a deep commitment to her students at William Tyler Page. A teacher at heart, she made a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Following the training, we shared a luncheon and created space for connection, where members made bracelets in her memory. It was simple, but meaningful.
As our members serve MCPS students each day, we are intentional about serving them too, pouring back into their growth, their well-being, and their journey.
Today was about more than training. It was about showing up for one another, honoring Muriel’s life in service, and carrying her legacy forward in the work we do every day.

Full circle moment 🌱
Our AmeriCorps member Sande was at the District 20 Breakfast Club this weekend, where community members came together for a legislative session recap. While there, she connected with Senator Will Smith, a Project CHANGE alum.
Back at Springbrook High School, Sande leads our hydroponics project, growing fresh greens with students and creating hands-on learning opportunities.
From the classroom to community spaces like this, this is what it looks like when the work connects.

Project CHANGE hosted SEWA AmeriCorps members for a storytelling training this Friday 🤝 Our AmeriCorps members had the chance to exchange, cross-collaborate, and learn from one another, sharing stories and practicing what it means to be effective listeners. We’re here to serve students across Montgomery County and MCPS, and moments like this remind us that we learn, grow, and strive together. What an amazing experience 💙
At Springbrook HS, the work begins in the greenhouse. 🌱
Rose, Sande, and Chiquita, a dynamic trio, show up every day planting, growing, and building something bigger than themselves.
What starts here reaches our students in real ways.
Support. Care. Opportunity. This is service in action.
