A Meal Can Open Doors

Today marks the first day of our summer campaign which will run until August 10 with a fundraising goal of $75,000 to support some of Shepherd’s Table lesser known programs: Beyond the Table (BTT), prescription assistance, and our Eye Clinic.

Beyond the Table (BTT) started during the pandemic to deliver ready-to-eat meals to neighbors who couldn’t come to Progress Place. Today, it continues through partnerships like MoCo Reconnect, Pathways to Housing youth programs, and Stephen Knolls School, supporting students with disabilities and their families by providing them with access to prepared nutritious lunch and dinners.

The story of BTT is just one example of how Shepherd's Table helps neighbors overcome barriers to stability and lasting well-being. Throughout this summer campaign, we'll share more stories about some of our lesser-known programs, including prescription assistance through our Resource Center and vision care through our Eye Clinic, showing how access to food, healthcare, and essential support can open doors to healthier, more independent lives.

A meal may be where support begins, but it can open doors to lasting change.

Yesterday, we were grateful to welcome a wonderful volunteer group from M&T Bank, joined by our board member, Isha Colley.

Partnerships like these make a real difference. When corporate teams come together to volunteer, it not only strengthens teamwork and builds connection among colleagues, it also helps expand awareness of our mission and the community we serve.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth and take time to reflect on the importance of community, dignity, and opportunity for all.

At Shepherd’s Table, we see every day how access to food, resources, and compassionate support can help people move forward. We remain committed to creating a welcoming space where our neighbors are treated with respect and have access to the services they need.

To celebrate the day, our kitchen team served a special BBQ lunch featuring marinated chicken thighs, steak tips, salad, collard greens and mac and cheese. We also brought out the ice pops to beat the heat!
