A client once showed up to our call with a folder full of wedding receipts ready to write off. 😅

They asked ChatGPT whether they could deduct their wedding if they invited clients and talked business. ChatGPT said yes. So naturally they assumed it was fully deductible.

It is not. 🚫

For any expense to be deductible it has to be ordinary AND necessary for your business. Unless you are literally in the wedding planning industry, your own wedding does not pass that test. Period.

We did not write off the wedding.

Please stop taking tax advice from AI chatbots. That’s what tax professionals are for. 😅
