The assumption that snow damages your cars paint is inaccurate. In most cases, it’s the removal by ice scrapers, brittle snow brushes, jacket sleeves, zippers and buttons from our own clothes that scratch through the clear coat, and can even pe*****te to the paint itself.
Removing snow from your car doesn’t have to damage your paint. In fact, there are a few clever ways you can remove snow without scratching your paint.
The first thing, be mindful of your clothes. Make sure not to rub your body along your car as you reach for the top. Grab a step stool to assist. Also, we need to address what you should NOT use for removing snow from the vehicle surface. Some of the NO GO items include brushes, brooms - those yard and shop brooms or dust (cattail brushes). Also included are those store-purchased brush/ice scraper tools. Those are aggressive and pretty good at scratching clear coats and plastic trims.
Look for FOAM tipped products. You can find plenty of things on Amazon for about $20 bucks. They will save you hundreds of dollars on a full paint correction on your car during summer. It’s basically a foam-tipped plow, that is attached to an ice scraper on the other end.
Also, another way to protect your car's surfaces is by getting a ceramic coating. The coating creates a protective layer over your car's paint. This coating makes it easier to clean snow, dirt, bird droppings, and various debris off the coated surfaces. With a good coating, these things can easily be wiped from the surface with a microfiber towel. Just one of the many reasons to get a ceramic coating!
