MESSAGE TO THE SNOQUALMIE-NORTH BEND COMMUNITIES REGARDING ICE IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT
The City of Snoqualmie, the City of North Bend, and the Snoqualmie Police Department that serves both cities are committed to serving and protecting all members of our community regardless of immigration status. Both Washington Law (Keep Washington Working Act) and Snoqualmie Police Department Policy prohibit our officers from assisting U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) or any other federal law enforcement entity engaged in federal immigration enforcement. Federal immigration enforcement is not the function of local law enforcement and local officers are prohibited from acting based on a personโs immigration status. Officers will not ask about your immigration status during an investigation, whether you are a victim or a suspect.
Should anyone in our community observe a situation that creates a public safety concern, please call 911 and report it. Snoqualmie Police will respond to ensure public safety, keeping in mind that ICEโs authority arises under federal law.
Mayor James Mayhew, Mayor Mary Miller, and Interim Chief Gary Horejsi want to remain dedicated to protecting and serving all members of our diverse communities.

Today we pause to remember the life of Martin Luther King Jr. I find these words of his a guiding light in troubled times.

Please join us at the Snoqualmie City Council meeting, the first of the new year, next Monday, January 12, 7pm. We look forward to Mayor James Mayhew and Councilmember Dan Murphy taking their oaths of office. Hope to see you!
As the New Year begins tomorrow I will begin my term as Mayor of Snoqualmie. Today I find myself thinking about the simple things I love most about Snoqualmie.
Winter mornings. The river moving steadily through. The mountains reminding us to slow down and take it all in. Even after the recent flooding that affected many families, this place continues to remind us why it matters so much.
Our Snoqualmie valley is made up of many communities, but what unites us is a shared sense of care. We show up for one another, especially when times are tough.
My wish for the New Year is simple: that our town remains a place where people feel connected, supported, and hopeful.
From my family to yours, wishing you a safe, healthy, and hopeful New Year.

Katherine Ross called yesterday to congratulate me on the election results and to begin the transition process. We all owe her our gratitude for nine years of elected service to our community.

New growth requirements have just been finalized for Snoqualmie, along with the rest of King County. We are required to grow by over 700 homes, or about 15%, largely in the area to the south-east of the Parkway. We were originally tagged in 2017 to grow by over 30%, but successive Mayors and Council have worked this down.
Our neighbors North Bend and Carnation have already identified and had public discussions of where and how to meet their goals, but Snoqualmie does not yet have a plan. I hope all residents will become involved in the upcoming process of deciding and guiding what we want this growth to look like, what these new neighborhoods will include, and especially what type of housing we want to see. By determining this now, we guide developers on what type of proposals to bring for fast approval and permitting. Stay on the watch for more information to come on how you can be involved!

Environmental issues have not been a primary topic in this race so far, this is a fantastic opportunity to focus on them.
