We do not ordinarily wish to share families’ tragedies publicly on our page; however, we want to take this opportunity to outline a couple events that have occurred over the past several days that have displayed firsthand the cooperation between community members and public safety entities.

Through prompt 911 notification by neighbors/passersby and immediate response by fire crews, Solon Fire and mutual aid partners contained and minimized losses resulting from two separate structure fires. Quick action in extinguishing and containment ensured that fire did not spread. No injuries were reported in either incident.

Fires spread rapidly, doubling in size every 30 seconds. Calling 911 is the fastest way to ensure that firefighters are dispatched immediately. Seconds can save lives.

Yesterday, at approximately 1035 am, Solon Fire Rescue and auto aid departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Summerset Drive. The initial call was from a passerby reporting that the garage at this residence was on fire. The passerby attempted to notify the resident, but there was no answer.

Upon arrival, crews observed a visible fire on the outside corner of the garage. Solon firefighters and our auto-aid partners quickly extinguished the fire before it spread into the main residence. The action successfully limited the spread of fire and interior damage to the home. At the time of the fire, the residence was not occupied. There were no reported injuries to civilians or first responders. The cause of the fire appears to be unintentional at this time. Thank you to our partners from SPD, CVD, Twinsburg, and Reminderville.
