The City Budget is a direct reflection of our City’s values. Despite the City’s alleged commitment to “reimagining public safety,” we have not seen many real improvements and the police budget continues to grow each year.
Join us in calling for cuts to the excessive police budget so we can invest in things that actually keep us and our neighbors safe.

Cambridge HEART has led the way in showing us what true public safety can look like. Formed during the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, HEART seeks to provide real care for their community. In the past year alone, they’ve actualized their vision and have hired and trained 7 community responders; supported the community through challenges, grief, and loss; started to respond to community calls, and so much more.
HEART has been able to accomplish so much in the past year because of strong support from the community. Their vision is to provide full, 24/7 crisis response for people in Cambridge, so we need community support to continue to build the infrastructure that makes HEART’s operations possible.
We invite you to join us in financially supporting this innovative community-led safety program. By supporting Cambridge HEART with a donation, you not only invest in this powerful program — you are making an investment in a different public safety future.

This event will be a chance to celebrate community and all the progress HEART has made so far. From participatory research with the community that informed the design for HEART to a staff composed entirely of Cambridge residents, HEART is deeply rooted with the people it seeks to serve.
You’ve just got to join us! Defund SPD supports HEART because we know that having a mental health crisis should not result in being shot by police.

Arif’s murder is deeply connected to the realities of police violence across the country. Rest in power Keenan Anderson, Tortuguita, Tyre Nichols, Darryl Williams, and the countless others being murdered by police. May we remember you through the love of your friends, family, and communities, & not just by your experiences with state violence.
This Sunday, join us with Bangladesh Association of New England BANE and Safe Schools Somerville 1/29 at 1 PM for a march. We will be starting at Somerville High School, and ending at Mystic Mural. We encourage folks to bring flowers to place at the mural in his memory.
