Somerville Historic Advisory Committee

Recently, Somerville Middle School students hosted a virtual visit by a re-enactor portraying Arabella Griffith Barlow, great granddaughter of the Wallace and Hardenbergh families who is Somerville's Civil War heroine. (Surprise, surprise!! We have at least one.) Andrea Quinn, through the recent efforts of Paul Soltis and the Wallace House and ODP Association the last several years, has been helping to show the continuing legacy of these families in the history of Somerville and our nation. Many thanks to their teacher, Matt D., for inviting Andrea to present to the students. Based on their written comments to Andrea, which she was kind enough to share, the presentation made a lasting impression and encouraged students not only to be proud of their home town legacy but to learn more. We hope to see more of Andrea/Arabella and to continue help enrich our school system's local history curriculum.
