Let’s face it, data veracity is a difficult thing to achieve for most modern businesses — but it doesn’t have to be. With the proper data collection methodologies and analytics platforms on your side, you can ensure all of your data is quality data. Here’s how 👇
First off, what is data veracity? In simple terms, it means how accurate or truthful your data is and how trustworthy the data source, type, and processing of it is. But there’s a lot more to it than that.
It's hard enough combining and analyzing quant/qual data from digital experience platforms, analytics, heat map and survey data, NPS, ESAT, CSAT, etc. for critical touchpoints. But then when you add customer and employee views to the mix, that's when biases can make an impact.
Overcoming the data veracity beast is almost impossible if your team isn’t invested in your business. That’s why one of the first steps we take when building any Customer Insights Map is running a gap analysis of the 3 Ps — people, processes and platforms.
But what is a gap analysis? It’s a way of assessing whether you have the right systems and software in place to gather the information needed, and whether your people are primed to receive the results.
Once you have a gap analysis under your belt, you can start building the engines required to map out experience scores across the journey. These include:
- CRM
- Website
- Mobile app
- Social media
- Email marketing
- SEM and SEO
- Data and analytics
- Other content

Ever wonder what REALLY drives change in your team? Change that actually STICKS? Change which is rooted in building to an a-ha moment of epiphany? Particularly when they see the world (and their professional lives) differently than you, as their leader?
Epiphanies are hard to get to, but sustaining a long-term change of heart and mind is even harder. And this is why the people who actually go through the entire Dunning-Kruger curve (AGAIN AND AGAIN) are so few and far between. Recognizing your own ignorance feels painful and perhaps even EMBARASSING. Dealing with the ripple effects and repercussions of your flawed thinking feels excruciating. Coming to a place of acceptance and moving forward with the knowledge of your past failings feels exhausting. And living the rest of your life in a way that completely contradicts your past behaviors feels nearly impossible.
But it's not impossible. Others before you have done it.
So why not you?
In fact, to wax philosophical for a moment, I believe that our world is in desperate need of more people tough enough to conquer their personal Dunning-Kruger lines and emerge onto the Plateau of Sustainability. In an era of social division, fake news, and cyber attacks, we need courageous people to step up, recognize their own foibles, and guide others to do the same.
So, when you start a large initiative--like RevOps or Revenue Acceleration--just remember that your team is your source to activate that vision. You can't do it all by yourself. You need them AND they need you.
So to help achieve those goals, don't move the goalposts, instead (and INDEED!!!) spend the prerequisite amount of empathetic and sincere time to help them traverse through their own personal Dunning-Kruger curve.
