Time to Make My Way Home — Dallas Edition ✈️
Eight days ago I left home for Montreal—my first international assignment—starting with a two-day, two-photographer headshot shoot… then flew ~1,500 miles south from snow and a 22° windchill to 75° in Dallas for a large-scale production.
Dallas meant jumping into an 18-photographer team—one of those weeks where everyone just gets it. The kind of rhythm, trust, and camaraderie that makes big events feel seamless.
Those are the moments I appreciate most.
—
Grabbed a late checkout at the Ga***rd Texan (clutch), eased into the morning, then treated myself to a few quiet hours in the United Club before heading out.
Sometimes the reset matters as much as the work.
—
And then one last moment on the way home…
A woman stops me after security:
“You were our photographer.”
Turns out she and her husband had front-row seats all week—watching me work the entire time.
Then I ran into them again at the gate…
and again while boarding—this time with the show manager running the whole production backstage.
Same smiles. Same energy.
Snapped a quick selfie on the way to my seat.
That’s the part you can’t plan for.
You just show up, do the work…
and sometimes people notice.
—
About 1,200 miles to go…
~3,200 miles when it’s all said and done.
Tired—but the good kind.
—
And soon…
Home.
My own bed.
Leo.
Jen.
Perfect.
Leave yourself open to those moments…
life usually delivers. 📸

Time to Make the Photos: Boston Edition 📸✈️
Trip #2 of the year is underway.
The morning started with the traditional send-off ritual from Leo — a few high fives, a shoulder ride (his newest obsession), and a Purr Pop before I headed out the door. Apparently I’m now both transportation and snack provider.
From there it was a sunrise run to , a quick glide through + TSA PreCheck, and wheels up from Seat 1A on 641 heading north to Boston.
Yesterday in Virginia it hit 84° and felt like spring had fully arrived.
Boston this morning?
41° with a wind chill around 32°.
So… yeah. That escalated quickly.
This is only my second trip of the year, but judging by what’s already on the calendar, the travel schedule is about to get busy and the miles are about to start stacking up.
Different cities. Different people. Different stories to capture.
Boston — time to make the photos.
Leo seemed confident I’d figure it out… once he finished riding around on my shoulders and supervising the whole operation.
Does anyone else have a pet that thinks they’re in charge of the house?

Time to Make the Photos — Pittsburgh Edition
First travel assignment of 2026 ✈️
It starts at home.
Leo’s shoulder-riding trick has been in development for a while — early beta versions included tentative hops and unstable landings.
But three days ago? Full release.
New capability unlocked.
Now he waits on the kitchen island or the back of a chair like he’s listening for boarding groups. I walk by — hop aboard. Paws lock. Tail up. Immediate hearty purr mode.
Apparently I am now his People Mover.
Which feels appropriate.
Outside, winter hangs low and blue over Northern Virginia. Snow across the fields. The radar dome near Dulles rising out of the fog — quietly tracking storms before the rest of us even know they’re forming.
Forecast energy. Pattern recognition. A fitting backdrop for the first assignment of the year.
Washington Dulles International Airport looking like the 1962 future we were promised. TSA Pre glowing green. The big IAD letters steady as ever.
And lined up outside the window — the People Movers. White tops stamped in red: OK. IL. TX. RI. MT. MD. HI.
State abbreviations.
I’ve flown through here more times than I can count and somehow never noticed. Today they lined up like roll call and it clicked.
Wait. Those are all states.
People love to complain about them. I don’t get it. I’ll take a People Mover over the escalator–tram–escalator maze any day. You roll across the tarmac like a dignified airport prairie schooner and arrive. Direct. Efficient. Surface-level.
Sometimes the unpopular thing is just the thing that works.
Pre-flight mimosa in hand. A free upgrade to United First (thank you kindly 🙏). Pittsburgh ahead.
And already on the books for 2026: Boston. Montreal. Dallas. Toronto. Anchorage.
Oh, the places we’ll go.
Leo unlocked a new level this week.
Now it’s my turn.
Time to make the photos.
