I teach a wildlife workshop in Costa Rica every couple of years. My wife Linda is a naturalist and enjoys catching lizards, frogs and turtles for everyone to photograph. She caught this frog (Gaudy Red-Eyed Green Leaf Frog) and I placed it upon a plant. It tried to escape thinking "This giant caught me and is going to eat me". While I had no intention of eating it; I am sure that is what it was thinking. After the sixth time of trying to escape and being put back upon the same plant, it finally gave up and just posed for my camera until it fell asleep. I used a 200 mm macro lens, not because of its ability to get close, but to give me working distance so as not to frighten the poor frog. After a few minutes, It fell asleep and we went on to our next photographic adventure.

When Linda and I go on vacation, we tend to listen to books on tape (or CD). It is great stimulation for my ears, but not my eyes. I'm looking out the window at all the scenery going by. We were returning home from New Orleans. We zoomed by this white unknown object. Curious, we turned around and discovered this guy. We stopped to meet him. I asked him "Whatch ya doin?" He replied "I'm takin my cross for a walk for the cause." I asked "What cause is that?" "Cause I have no money." We donated to his cause so we could shoot his photo. This evangelist walks from Baton Rouge north along the highway until he gets to the state line, turns around and then walks back back home. Rinse and repeat. As a photographer, do not be afraid to walk up to total strangers and ask "Whatch ya doin?" You have the opportunity to meet interesting people and possibly make a decent photo for your efforts.
