1) The holiday was officially recognized as a national holiday in the U.S. in 2005, by former president, George W. Bush.
2) The offical dish of Cinco de Mayo is mole poblano, originating in Puebla, Mexico, the city whose history is honored by the holiday.
3) While many mistake Cinco de Mayo for Mexico's Independence Day (September 16th), the two holidays are remembered and celebrated differently, with Mexico's Independence Day holding more significance for Mexico's history as a whole, and Cinco de Mayo reigning more as a celebration of one of Mexico's pivotal victories.
