City Covenant
Practicing the way of Jesus in the heart of the city.

Last Sunday, Asher continued his series on the Sermon on the Mount with a look at Matthew 6:24-34 on the subject of worry.
Rough paraphrase: The human soul is not equipped to deal with “omniscience.” We weren’t meant to know and be bombarded by all the world’s problems at once. We get overwhelmed and have a tendency to do nothing at all, even in the local spaces where we could actually make a difference. We cannot worry and worship at the same time.
We live, Asher said, in a culture of “enough.” That was Jesus’ message for the people listening to the Sermon on the Mount — people who had much less than we do today. People who were barely surviving, and yet, Jesus said they need not worry.
If you missed last Sunday, you can catch the full sermon on City Cov’s YouTube channel.

Krista and Kyle Johnson were among the group of new members introduced last Sunday. Here’s a brief Q and A to help you get to know them better.
1) How did you find City Covenant?
We were looking for a smaller church and knew a few friends who attended here.
2) How long have you been coming?
Around 1 year.
3) How long have you been married?
6 years
4) Schools?
We both attended Whitworth University for our undergrad degrees (although we didn’t know each other then). Kyle also did a masters program at Gonzaga University.
5) How is God working in your life (in big or small ways)?
God has shown and is continuing to show us how his timing is often better than our own.
6) How do you like to spend your time? What do you enjoy doing — separately or together?
We spend most of our time playing games, reading, watching Survivor and playing with our two spunky doodles.
7)Jobs?
Kyle is an elementary school counselor for Spokane Public Schools, and Krista is in Finance at Avista.
Please take a moment to say hello and welcome them when you see them.
