Love 11 helped turn an unimaginable tragedy for one Spokane family into hundreds of chances for area youth to participate in sports. But now, eight years after their son died, Emily and Josh are dissolving Love 11, the Micah Daniel Love Foundation.

“I love the legacy that Love 11 has,” said Emily, Micah’s mom. “It’s bittersweet to close it down.”

Micah was just eight years old when he died in 2016. His parents will tell you he loved his family, friends, and sports.

Emily and Josh knew Micah wanted his two best friends to play sports, and Love 11 made that possible. But they didn’t quit there. The foundation just kept giving, and so did its donors. Love 11 raised over $234,000 and gave scholarships to 702 area youth to participate in sports.

Both know magic happens on a team. Josh remembers coaching all of Micah’s teams and the feeling of watching a kid learn and succeed on and off the field.

“One kid makes one play,” said Josh. “You look over, and you see the smile on his face. It just reminds me of Micah’s smile.”

Both are filled with gratitude.

“We have been supported for eight years, and as a parent, that means so much to me,” Emily said. “It’s been a full-time job running Love 11, but it has been a huge blessing. So much good has come out of it.”

School is almost starting and I want to ask you a favor… Sit with your child for 5 minutes and explain that there’s never a reason to make fun of someone for their height, their weight, their skin tone, their home life or the things they enjoy.

Explain there’s nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes every day.
Explain to them that a used backpack carries the same dreams as a new one.
Teach them not to exclude anyone for "being different"
Explain to them that teasing hurts and that school is for going to LEARN, NOT to compete or spread negativity.

Remind them some kids don’t go home to loving families so it’s important to be kind. It all starts at home!

There's no greater heartache than having to live life without your child.
