Spokane Is Reading is immensely grateful to be a recipient of a 2025 SAGA grant! The Spokane Arts Grant Awards’ goal is to serve as a catalyst, fostering a robust, healthy arts community where individual artists, creative industries, and nonprofit arts and culture organizations thrive. Support from the SAGA program will help cover costs related to bringing award-winning novelist and Afrofuturist Tananarive Due to Spokane including travel, accommodations, and honorarium. This will be one of the largest-scale Spokane Is Reading events to date, building on the success of last year’s record-setting crowds for Perma Red by Debra Magpie Earling. Spokane is Reading anticipates a wide and diverse turnout, especially given Due’s national acclaim and commitment to truth-telling through genre fiction. The community is invited engage in a shared literary experience, culminating in two free events with the author on October 23 at Spokane Valley Library (1pm) and Spokane Central Library (7pm). Copies of this year’s selection, The Reformatory, are available for checkout from both the city and county library systems and for sale at Auntie’s Bookstore.
