The more I use AI, the more convinced I am that it won't replace great real estate agents.
AI can estimate a home's value in seconds. It can summarize market data, compare neighborhoods, and answer questions that would have taken hours of research just a few years ago. And honestly, that's a good thing, but here's the catch: real estate decisions have never really been about information alone. The challenge isn't finding data. The challenge is knowing which data matters, which assumptions are flawed, and how local market dynamics affect the outcome. A home isn't worth what an algorithm says it's worth. It's worth what a willing buyer will pay in a specific market, under specific conditions, at a specific moment in time.
We've all seen automated valuations miss the mark. Not because the technology is bad, but because real estate is still deeply human. Condition, motivation, negotiation, presentation, timing, and local knowledge all influence value in ways that are difficult to capture in a formula.
AI is an incredible tool. But the more powerful these tools become, the more I find myself appreciating the things they can't do: walk through a home, read a seller's motivation, navigate a tense negotiation, or understand the nuances of a neighborhood that only come from being immersed in a market every day.
Maybe the future of real estate isn't AI versus agents. Maybe it's AI handling the information while experienced professionals focus on judgment.
