On Saturday, Dishman Hills staff and volunteers cleaned up a shelter near the yellow loop in the Natural Area. It was made from roughly 15 green trees that were cut down using a hatchet; one of the trees being over 40 years old. This happened last year as well on the west side of the area and in that instance they cut all the trees out of a rock formation. In both cases, it appeared that they were not "homeless" camps but more temporary shelters; possibly just someone testing survival skills. Needless to say, building these shelters in the Dishman Hills causes a lot of damage and takes decades to regrow. If you hear someone cutting trees with a saw or a hatchet and they are not the county or DHC workers, please contact the county or crime check. Thank you for looking out for our lands.
