Resolving Dyslexia / ADHD

One common “symptom” of Dyslexia is feeling misunderstood. I remember those frustrating nights of homework with my son when it seemed that he was procrastinating, avoiding work, being lazy, or complaining of nausea to “get out of reading.”

Despite being an undiagnosed mild-dyslexic myself, I didn’t understand what was going on for him because my symptoms were quite different than his.

Many nights I went to bed feeling AWFUL...in tears...because I felt like a failure as a mom. Not only couldn’t I help him, but I lost my cool on many occasions and showed my frustration to the person that most needed my compassion and empathy. 💔

When someone is struggling with Dyslexia, know that they are actually trying WAY harder than their peers. They want to succeed just as we all do. They want to do their best - but their experience is vastly different than someone without Dyslexia.

They typically excel in other areas and have talents that should be cultivated and encouraged...and there ARE tools and techniques that allow for excelling in academics as well!
