In this morning's class, we meditated on the difference between a maze and a labyrinth.

Years ago, one of my teachers shared a story of a "team building" event where everyone went into a large corn maze. They all had a beeper which could track where they were and help would come to direct them out. My teacher said she was determined to figure out how to do the maze on her own, however, and walked the many paths only to find herself at a dead end and then back to where she was minutes ago. In the meantime a loudspeaker kept announcing names of everyone who "got out of the maze" until she was sure she was the last one left lost and alone. Desperate, she finally pushed the beeper and immediately heard her name called out that she was out of the maze.

The maze was a metaphor for being lost. Asking for help was the way out.

A labyrinth only has one path which leads to the center, always. While it might feel like the path winds out and around, eventually it leads in. The same path retraced leads back out. You can't get lost in a labyrinth.

The maze is the world--where there are lots of dead ends, and movement doesn't necessarily bring you anywhere new or different. The labyrinth is you--where you will always find your center. By walking the same path over and over, it may bring you deeper into understanding your Self, refresh your spirit, bring you wisdom, and create clarity in what matters. The center is your heart. You know the way.

This week we are featuring our Yoga Rope Wall again in the Foundations of Hatha Yoga classes:
Tuesday at 5:30pm
Wednesday at 10:30am

The ropes allow for both support and direction of energy using traction for hips in Adho Mukha Svanasana/Down Dog. While hips are supported, there is also an opportunity to address the most favorable arm and shoulder support in this inversion.

Drop ins are welcome and are STILL ONLY $10 for a class!!! And you do not need to pre-register. As we celebrate our 15th year of On The Path Yoga, we welcome everyone to come in and find out what makes our sangha special!!
