Please join us in uniting pet rescuers in Montgomery County!

Friday 1pm - 7pm we will be focusing on the basics of animal healthcare. Saturday 8:30am - 5pm we will be focusing on education and networking within the animal welfare community. This event is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. It is FREE to Lone Star Students and shelter employees!

You can find out more about the conference and how to register here: http://www.lonestar.edu/PetRescueConference?utm_source=Pet+Rescue+Conference&utm_campaign=MCAS+Foster+Intro&utm_medium=email

Charles Jackson, new Director for MCAS will be the keynote speaker Friday evening at 6pm. Joining him, will be an incredible line-up of speakers like Brent Toellner of Best Friends Animal Society (formerly of KC Pet Project), Tawny Hammond, Chief of Austin Animal Center Services, Alice Burton with Alley Cat Allies, Sgt. Karl Bailey with the City of Seagoville Animal Services, and many more!

Friday's topics will include: An Ask the Vet session, Basics of CPR and First Aid for Pets, Trap Neuter Return of Community Cats, and Growing a Foster Network.

Saturday's topics will include: A legislative update, marketing & social media for fundraising, grant writing, disease control for shelters and rescues, and success stories from shelters with similar backgrounds to our own.

Lone Star College has graciously offered conference rooms at 7pm on Friday evening after Mr. Jackson speaks. If you would like to book a private meeting room to network with other rescue partners or to have a private meeting with your volunteers, please contact Deana at [email protected] so we can make arrangements.

We hope this will be the first of many conferences to come. We have an excellent community of rescuers and we will be successful by working together!

If you cannot afford the conference fee, scholarships are available on a first come first serve basis. Contact Deana if you would like to apply.

The August issue is now available! In this issue we feature some great back to school training tips from Bark Busters Home Dog Training. We also feature an article on "Decoding the Dog Park" to help you and your pooch have the most fun at the park.

In an effort to raise awareness of MPS-VI, we interviewed Cody Sanders, president of the MPS ARMY If you are not familiar with this disease, please take some time to read about it and its affects. We thank Cody for educating us on this little known disease and hope that more can be done to prevent it.

Our bright-eyed cover dog, Ophelia comes from DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission. A bigh thank you to Paw Prints by Jamie for the great photos! To read about her and other adoptable Dachshunds, click on the link below.
