COVID UPDATE from the Author:

"Living in our COVID-19 world these past couple of months has caused me to reflect on how Safety 24/7 relates to our shared circumstances. The answer, from my perspective, is the overriding principals are even more relevant and critical today than ever before. Asking people to do the easy things like washing their hands, covering their mouth when they cough / sneeze, don't touch their face, to the more difficult like quarantining are clearly examples of an individual taking responsibility for their own safety. Likewise, asking people to do things like wearing a mask in public, maintaining social distance, and even closing a business, certainly demonstrates the principal of watching out for the other person. And, clearly, taking these steps has resulted in people's lives being saved.

Taking a look at it from a more granular perspective; principals like "old school behaviors" (i.e. not doing all the things we're supposed to be doing), or "complacency" (i.e. I've had the flu before, or I never caught SARS / MERS, etc), to I'm "young and invincible" are all the more relevant today than ever. Even the Safety 24/7 Conversation can be COVID-19 focused; I appreciate you coming with me to the store today; what do you think would concern me about you going out in public like that (i.e. no mask); what's the worst thing that could happen; is there some way you could protect yourself better; can I get your agreement if you go out, whether I'm with you or not, you'll wear a mask.

Like anything, I'm sure someone could find principles that aren't relevant; however, they are the "naysayers" the book also talks about. But just like in the workplace, that mindset could have catastrophic consequences."

I hope you remain healthy wherever you might be,
