The Good Scents God Gave Us
I'm a Young Living Essential Oils distributor, here to educate and answer questions about using essential oils.
Essential oil safety is on my mind.
Since I started using Young Living, I've been shocked by the way its "brand partners" slather on the oils and recommend ingesting large amounts of them. There is no formal training offered in the proper way to use essential oils--just living room classes from experienced upline members to new brand partners to newer ones. People who know very little "teaching" people who know less. They just pass down the misinformation.
I joined an aromatherapy Facebook group to learn more and basically got run out of the group because I am a member of Young Living and they think we are criminal idiots for not getting and offering training.
Sure, anyone can do their due diligence, research and learn, but let's get serious. How many really do it? Not very many, because they're being told and taught by many (not all) in their upline that you can drink the stuff like Kool-Aid. They get their info from Pinterest, not aromatherapy texts or even the desk references that are recommended (NOT provided, I must point out) by the company.
Here's what my friend Sheri McLeod Rose has to say from her group Family Wellness. I got her into Young Living and essential oils. She is an excellent researcher and has been formally learning about essential oils from many sources, including Lea Jacobsen, the woman referenced below:
"100% PURE ESSENTIAL OILS
Here’s the truth about pure essential oils. They can cause negative reactions in people because they are pure, and they are super potent. It’s not only the adulterated and synthetic EOs that some people have reactions to.
So interesting how some say "therapeutic grade" like that is a harmless thing. Pharmaceuticals are therapeutic grade, and when used incorrectly, cause great harm. 🤔
Here’s what happens when Lea Jacobson tries to teach others about how to use essential oils safely."

“Imagine making money by causing fear via a free PDF!
This Karen downloaded my "I Do Not Consent to Classroom Diffusing" PDF and decided to share her thoughts with me:
"This may be true about oils bought at Walmart and Whole Foods but not all oils have synthetic scents and you talk like lol of them do. You’re really making money out of instilling fear in people about all essential oils. It’s really a shame for the people that actually promote 100% pure oils that are effective and don’t have the synthetic effects you talk about."
My reply?
I’m not talking about fake or synthetic essential oils at all, but the 100% pure ones. They are 100% pure and equally potent - and as much wonderful therapeutic power as they hold, they can equally cause hazardous effects due to their strong concentration.
100% pure Peppermint which is NATURALLY high in menthol can cause labored breathing and slowed respiration in children, especially those under the age of six years old.
100% pure Cinnamon Bark essential oil NATURALLY contains blood-thinners - while great for a blood clot, can unnaturally thin the blood. Not to mention topical redness, irritation, and being unsafe for pregnant women.
100% pure Bergamot which NATURALLY contains furanocoumarins can cause phototoxic reactions when applied to the skin and exposed to UV light.
I make $0 urging people to use caution with essential oils. I actually save them money as they are using essential oils safely - which can often mean putting fewer drops in the air, on the skin, and avoiding ingestion 99 times out of 100.
Use any brand you want (yes of course avoid $4 bottles of Frankincense) - just use them safely.”
