🚨SCAM ALERT🚨 A prevalent nationwide scam using AI to create a scary phone call, including a loved one's voice, has hit Fayetteville multiple times, and we want you to be aware.
In many instances, the scam happens something like this: someone gets a phone call, and either an unfamiliar voice demands money with their loved one's voice in the background sounding as if they're in distress, or the loved one's voice is the one asking for money. They are usually told not to hang up and to follow directions on how to send money.
Nationwide, this scam has become very common, and countless stories have victims hanging up and calling their loved ones directly. The loved one will answer, completely unharmed and unaware of what is happening.
We want you to be aware of this to avoid becoming a victim. If someone you know calls in distress, stating they are in harm's way and a large amount of money is needed immediately, hang up. Once you hang up, call that person's phone number directly.
📞You can report any scam that happens in Fayetteville at 479-587-3555.
