🐞 ExploreSPS Spotlight: Insect Investigators 🪲

Week 2 of Explore was all about insects! Academy of AgSploration students investigated the fascinating world of insects through hands-on exploration.

Using insect specimens preserved in resin and dichotomous keys, students worked through identification stations to observe insect features and determine different species. By identifying beneficial insects and garden pests, students discovered how insects contribute to healthy ecosystems and gardens.

🌽 ExploreSPS Spotlight: Happy National Corn Month! 🌽

For the past two summers, students have planted corn as part of a learning lab connected to 5th grade nonfiction learning about resources and agriculture.

This year, the learning continues in a new location. Our new high tunnel now sits on the former cornfield, so students moved their planting area just west of the high tunnel and started a new crop of corn for observation.

Explore students rolled up their sleeves, grabbed packets of seeds and trowels, and got to work planting this year’s corn crop. This growing cornfield will serve as a living lab when students return in the fall, providing firsthand evidence to support learning about agriculture and resources.
