CROSSWALK ENFORCEMENT IS BACK - with a little twist!
Starting next week, the Springfield, MO Police Department will start up with Yield Checks again.
This grant-funded high-visibility enforcement effort is intended to crack down on:
❎Drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
❎Distracted driving
❎Illegal crossings that endanger life
The first location for this year will be the Fassnight Creek Trail crossing on Jefferson Avenue at Bennett Street.
Since this program is an educational effort at its core, the enforcement locations are typically promoted ahead of time. Also, a "crosswalk ahead" sign is usually set out at the enforcement site. However, drivers who fail to yield can be stopped and cited anywhere, anytime. The minimum fine is set at $100. You can find out more here: https://www.springfieldmo.gov/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/13158
