After learning that girls were missing school because of their period, REALTOR® Sharon Chambers-Gordon made it her mission to provide free hygiene products. Since 2017, her nonprofit Raising Girls has raised $250,000, and now provides 11 school districts with roughly 4,700 hygiene bags each year, including feminine products, as well as basics like shampoo and toothpaste. Sharon’s goal is to take the effort nationwide and shine a brighter light on the importance of addressing period poverty. “A lot of people don’t know that there is a big lack of period products in communities. We are the voice of the unheard girl who is embarrassed to talk about these kinds of things.”
