Rotary Club of Springfield Virginia

Last night was the annual Rotary Club fundraiser at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. The musical was "The Drowsy Chaperone." It was so helpful to have some students from Lake Braddock High School help with things. Thanks to all the others who helped and attended. Phil Sternberg, our president, did so much to make it a success and we had a lot of Montebello residents in attendance. Jim Kirkpatrick of West Springfield Rotary Club won the 50-50 raffle.

Our Rotary speaker on Thursday was A.J. Alonzo Wind, former USAID person who headed a medical NGO in Gaza. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Washington Global and involved with the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution. His presentation was excellent. If you have a chance to hear him you will be so fortunate. He is shown here with President Phil Sternberg.

Our guest speaker at the Rotary meeting yesterday was Janet Michaelsen who recalled her experiences in Sweden in the Youth Exchange program. She also hosted students and her son and daughter we also in other countries. It was a very good program.
President-elect Bill Dexter presented her with a thank you certificate.

Today at our meeting PDG Chuck Davidson presented an excellent slide show about our local Foundation.

On Thursday, June 19, our club had an Installation of Officers and presentation of scholarships to three Edison Academy graduates. Two of the recipients were there and an Edison teacher accepted the award for the third. Three Edison staff members also attended.
