Time to rake up all the leaves!
The City of Springfield's residential fall yard waste/leaf pickup begins Monday, October 29.
Residents must place their leaves in paper yard waste bags or plastic containers that are no more than 30 gallons and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Yard waste should be placed curbside by 7am each Monday morning during the yard waste collection period.
The collection period will run through the week of Monday, December 3. All yard waste placed properly by 7am each Monday during this six-week time frame will be picked up throughout the corresponding week.
Metal cans and overweight containers or plastic bags will not be picked up. Do not line paper bags with plastic.
Crews will place a sticker on any bag or container that does not meet the criteria and residents will be asked to re-bag their yard waste.
Other details about the program:
• All bags in compliance will be picked up and there is no need to call to schedule the service.
• Do not remove the bagged yard waste from the curb once you place it there.
• Bags should be placed at the end of driveways or on parkways between the sidewalk and street.
• Yard waste should be placed in paper yard waste bags—not grocery sacks or boxes.
• Do not use any type of tape on the bag to seal it shut as the tape is not recyclable.
• Plastic bags are not accepted.
• Yard waste stickers do not need to be placed on the bags during this collection period.
• Residents should be advised that sweeping leaves into the street is a city violation and doing so could result in a fine.
Residents may also bring their yard waste to Evans Recycling located at 2100 J. David Jones Parkway, Monday through Friday 7am – 5pm and Saturdays 7am – 12noon. Drop off is free during the collection time period. For questions about the City of Springfield yard waste pickup, call the Office of Public Works at 217.789.2255 or email [email protected].
