PMDD stands for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.
Is it like PMS? In some ways, yes. It often begins about a week or two before menstruation and eases once menstruation starts. Is there moodiness and fatigue? Yes.
BUT, it is very different from PMS as well. Women report feeling rage or suicidal. Some woment can't even get out of bed they are so fatigued. PMDD is like PMS on steroids. The change in hormones aren't necessarily the problem. It's that the brain becomes extra sensitive to the changes in hormones during a woman's monthly cycle and PMDD can be the result for an estimated 10% of women. It is debilitating.
Some natural ways of reducing the intensity and/or duration of PMDD are to engage in gentle resorative movement, guided meditation, and even looking to your diet to see how you can best support your brain and hormones during this time. Look for ways to reduce stress so that you're not throwing gasoline on a fire you know if likely already lit.
Do you sometimes get so in your own world that everything and everyone is blocked out? 😂

How many of you wish your teen didn't sleep so late in the morning? How many of you have teens that want to stay up all night? The reason below might surprise you!!
Research shows that the sleep hormone melatonin works differently in teens than in children and adults.
In adolescence, melatonin levels stay high later at night and drop later in the morning, which may explain why teens may stay up late and struggle with waking up early. Many teens do not get enough sleep, making it harder to pay attention, control impulses, and do well at school. Getting good sleep at night can help support mental health.

Kids and teens don't always have the words to say, "I'm stressed."
Instead, stress often shows up through behavior changes, emotional outbursts, trouble sleeping, difficulty focusing, withdrawal, or even frequent headaches and stomachaches.
When we recognize these signs early, we can better support our kids before stress begins impacting their learning, relationships, confidence, and overall well-being.
☀️ Summer can be an especially great time to support brain health!
Without the demands of homework, tests, packed schedules, and early mornings, many kids and teens have more time and flexibility to focus on rest, recovery, and building resilience before the next school year begins. Parents also often find it easier to schedule appointments without disrupting school, sports, or extracurricular activities.
Sometimes behavior isn't the problem...it's the clue!
