TODAY is the National Day of Prayer for VBS

VBS is a time when children hear the gospel, build relationships, & experience the love of Christ in a fun & engaging way. But before the decorations go up & the kids arrive, there’s something even more important that must happen—prayer.

Each year, the third Sunday of May is set aside as a day for churches to ask God to move through Vacation Bible School. VBS is important work! And it’s one we must undergird with prayer.

Here are 6 specific things we can pray for as we observe together the National Day of Prayer for VBS.

1. Ask for God’s blessing over VBS & all who will be involved.
2. Pray for the teachers, volunteers, & workers who will serve during VBS. Ask God to receive their hours of preparation as a pleasing offering & for the Holy Spirit to be at work in & through them.
3. Pray for the children & families who will attend VBS. Ask God to begin preparing their hearts to respond to the Good News they will hear at VBS. Pray for their physical safety & emotional well-being during the week.
4. Pray for those who are unchurched in our community who will join our church for VBS. Ask God to soften our own hearts & the hearts of our congregation to welcome, serve, & build relationships with everyone who enters our doors.
5. Pray for those who will share the gospel during VBS & those who will follow up with children, students, adults, & families. Ask the Holy Spirit to give them clarity, guidance, & discernment.
6. Pray for churches around the world who will conduct a VBS, Backyard Kids Club, or other evangelistic outreach this summer. Pray for God’s Kingdom to be expanded. Thank God in advance for the blessings & opportunities He will provide through VBS.
