Our hearts go out to everyone on base and all of the animals. Many are staying as not all pet can get off in time and Cuba is a high rabies risk country so dogs have to work with stricter CDC rules. All paperwork for pets has to be done by the 1 base veterinarian. The Jamaican workers are worried about their families and trying to prepare as current immigration policies affect them and the Filipino workers ability to be evacuated.
It’s so heartbreaking all around and we’re hoping it doesn’t get as bad as predicted. There’s some dedicated folks running the pet shelter or refusing to leave their pets if they can’t get them off island in time.

Sashimi and her adopted mom Mavis are looking for a home together! Sashimi was rescued as a small baby from under a trailer in St. Kitts. Mavis was living at a colony but yearned for the indoor life. We got them both on the Wings of Rescue flight and when we put them in the same foster home something adorable happened. Mavis took Sashimi and the other kittens under her paw and became the best mom! She grooms them, cuddles with them, watches over them and protectively stands in front of them if there’s a scary noise.
They have absolutely bonded and need to be adopted together. They’re both incredibly affectionate, confidant, and loving little ladies. They want to be on the bed, they want you to give them tons of attention, and Mavis is a big talker which is so cute! They both love other cats but Mavis is not a big fan of dogs, though she is currently living with a calm older dog who respects her space.
Mavis is about 2 years old, Sashimi is about 4 months old. Mavis has had all of her vet work, Sashimi gets spayed next week. If you’re interested in adopting please send us an email or a pm!

The plane landed at 10pm and everyone was unloaded pretty quickly. They still have to take the drive down to Virginia to finish their big journey. There was an unexpected delay so it’s been a long day for everyone but so worth it to make sure all of these animals got rescued. Over 150 cats and dogs from both islands were on the flight!
