Job description
Country Club is seeking a hands-on, experienced, and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead the daily maintenance and care of our 18-hole course. This is a boots-on-the-ground role for someone who thrives outside the office and actively participates in mowing, spraying, irrigation, and course preparation alongside their crew.
Key Responsibilities:
● Daily Field Work: Operate mowers, tractors, sprayers, and hand tools to perform mowing, trimming, bunker raking, and other course maintenance duties as needed.
● Staff Leadership: Supervise, train, and schedule grounds crew (4-6 staff members), ensuring tasks are completed with quality and efficiency.
● Course Setup: Manage daily course preparations including cutting cups, rolling greens, setting tee markers, and raking bunkers.
● Turfgrass Health: Implement agronomic programs including mowing schedules, fertilization, pest/disease management, and aeration.
● Irrigation Oversight: Operate, monitor, and repair the irrigation system to ensure proper coverage and water management.
● Equipment Oversight: Perform light equipment maintenance and coordinate major repairs with mechanics or service providers.
● Winterization & Seasonal Prep: Plan for seasonal transitions including winterization and spring startup of all systems.
● Safety & Compliance: Maintain OSHA and environmental standards. Proper handling and application of fertilizers and chemicals.
● Communication: Provide updates to the General Manager regarding turf conditions, project progress, staffing needs, and weather impacts.
Qualifications:
● 3+ years of golf course or turf management experience (assistant or superintendent role).
● Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of irrigation and turf equipment.
● Massachusetts pesticide applicator’s license (or ability to obtain).
● Excellent leadership and communication skills.
● Passion for turf care and pride in course presentation.
● Must be able to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by course operations.
Preferred:
● Certificate or degree in Turf Management or Agronomy (not required if experience is extensive).
● Experience managing bentgrass greens in a New England climate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
