VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT:
β€œI have been volunteering since 2017-mostly filling requests from the closet, also some grocery shopping, helping with Thanksgiving purchases and distributions, and fundraisers.
After retiring, I looked for volunteer opportunities that would be interesting and satisfying to me. I really liked the James Project idea that not everyone is cut out to be a foster parent, but anyone can do something to support foster families. I love kids and helping them at their most vulnerable time was appealing to me. I like how the James Project closet is so well organized and the fulfilling of requests is organized and easy to respond to, on an as needed basis. I am especially happy when I deliver things and the foster children are home and come to the door and get excited when they see I have something for them. One little girl, probably about three years old followed me down the driveway asking for a hug before I left. Those feelings really warm your heart.
I have also delivered groceries to grandparents raising grandkids. As a grandparent now myself, I see how challenging this could be. I have delivered to a couple grandmothers who get around with walkers and live in apartments, where just shopping and getting the groceries inside with little ones around seems difficult, not to mention the financial burden of feeding little ones, probably when they are on a fixed income themselves”- Amy We can’t do our work without people like Amy! We are extremely grateful for her years of service πŸ’™πŸ’š
