Sparkles was 1 month old yesterday. She has lightened up considerable. And has made some people friends. She’s very curious about everything. Still sassy as can be. The most confident calf I’ve ever had.
Say hello to our new calf Sparkles. She’ll be called Sparky during the off season, because she is a ball of determined fire! I’ve never had a calf who barks out commands & makes things happen that she wants to happen.
She’s just 24 hrs old, and started out at 7 lbs. She decided bottles are not for her. Ginger had not dropped her milk as of my last visit to the barn last night. I got an ounce of formula in her. But she just wants Ginger to do her job & get with it. When I went up early this morning, there she is nursing away. And Ginger, who usually just walks away & won’t allow the calf to nurse, is patiently standing in place & letting her. I think this calf will rise to the top place in the herd quick once she’s out will everyone else. Very bossy girl!

Cookie has won the long lasting antler contest this year. She still has a full set. Joy has 1/3rd on one side. All 3 calves still have antlers, but Vixon got in a battle through the stock panels with her 1/2 brother & only has the one antler on the left.
