Our VFW Post mourns the loss of a true shipmate, patriot, and friend, Eugene โGeneโ Walker. Gene proudly served our nation in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Petty Officer 3rd Class Electronics Technician from 1963โ1967, serving aboard the Brown Waters and in Kodiak, Alaska. His service to this country did not end when he returned home.
Gene dedicated much of his life to supporting and uplifting fellow veterans. Whether through his involvement with VFW Post 755, the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County, the Navy Club, or countless veteran organizations throughout the community, Gene was always there when veterans needed help, guidance, or simply someone who understood. He believed deeply that no veteran should ever stand alone.
He was one of those rare individuals who quietly gave his time, energy, and heart to others without ever asking for recognition. His compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to veterans made a lasting impact on many lives and strengthened the bond of our veteran community.
Geneโs legacy of service, honor, and brotherhood will not be forgotten. We are grateful for his friendship, his leadership, and the example he set for all of us. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate. You have stood the watch well
We will all miss you so much!
