Hawthorne Place Neighborhood

For those who may be interested in a fun weekend activity, Big Boy No. 4014 will be passing through the Downtown Springfield Amtrak station tomorrow, June 18th, between 10:45a-11:15a.

Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 is the world's largest operating steam locomotive. Built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) to haul heavy freight across Utah's Wasatch Mountain Range during World War II, it stands as a legendary icon of American industrial might.

After a 58-year retirement and a massive restoration by Union Pacific, it returned to the tracks in 2019.

The locomotive is currently on its historic 2026 Coast-to-Coast Tour celebrating America's 250th anniversary. Having reached the East Coast for a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia, it is now steaming its way back west toward its home base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
