5th Avenue Uniting Church - Springfield, Tennessee

Two weeks ago this young woman on the right, who many of us watched grow up before our eyes — stood at the front of our sanctuary and preached, served communion, and gave us a Sunday we won’t forget. She’s headed to college this fall.

After the service a two year old who absolutely adores her made a beeline straight into her arms. And honestly? We all felt that.

This is why we do youth ministry the way we do it. Not as a side program. As a central conviction. We believe that if children grow up feeling genuinely loved, deeply known, and radically welcomed, they don’t just keep it for themselves. They take it with them everywhere they go.

We plant shade trees here. We may not always be the ones who sit under them. But we plant them anyway.
