Northern Virginia Chorale

Thank you to the friends, family, and neighbors who joined us at the Chorale masterworks concert in March. Please consider joining us on June 6th as we commemorate both the Chorale's 50th anniversary year and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with a program featuring works celebrating both our local area and the nation as a whole.

The Northern Virginia Chorale presents our 50th anniversary concert on June 6 at 4 pm, featuring:

The Awakening, by Joseph Martin
Route 66, arr by Kirby Shaw
Shenandoah, arr by Bryan Sharpe
Homeland (also known as “Jupiter’s Theme” from The Planets), arr by Z. Randall Stroope
You’ll Never Walk Alone, arr by Johnny Mann

Under the direction of Interim Artistic Director Karen Kyger. Karen taught high school music for 31 years, 17 of which were at TC Williams in Alexandria. She earned 2 Outstanding Teacher Awards, as well as the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award. Karen currently serves as Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church Choral Director.

Join us in 1 month for “A Step Forward” with major works by contemporary composers and instrumental accompaniment!
The Northern Virginia Chorale presents “A Step Forward”
on March 28 at 4 pm, featuring:

A Procession Winding Around Me by Jeffrey Van, poetry by Walt Whitman: a powerful, tonal, and emotionally resonant four-movement choral work capturing the Civil War's progression from anxiety to reconciliation. The guitar accompaniment is noted for its evocative, percussive, and atmospheric role.

Illuminare by Elaine Hagenberg: a highly acclaimed five-movement choral work that explores moving from darkness to light through sacred texts. Released in 2022, it is praised for its emotional depth, lush harmonies, and accessible yet sophisticated style.
