STATE UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS INCREASE TENFOLD OVER VIRUS CLOSURES
More than 64,000 Illinois residents filed unemployment claims Monday through Wednesday, more than 10 times the number of claims the state received during the same period last year, as exceptions to the normal requirements to receive unemployment benefits have been adopted in response to COVID-19.. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, eligibility will now be considered for individuals “actively seeking work as long as they’re prepared to return to work as soon as their employer reopens” and for a "parent staying home with a child because they likely have no other child care option."
