This week, Sheriff Paula Crouch held a ceremony recognizing both a new hire and a promotion within the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.
During the ceremony, Joseph Ryan was sworn in as a Court Security Officer, officially beginning his service with the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, Detective Wulf Bomke was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign running May 15-26 during the Memorial Day travel period.
Deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement focused on the “Fatal 4” violations that contribute to serious crashes and fatalities: impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and seat belt violations. Deputies will also enforce Scott’s Law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over for stopped emergency vehicles displaying warning lights.
“Buckle up every trip, every time,” said Sheriff Paula Crouch. “Seat belts save lives, and we are committed to keeping our roads safe throughout the holiday travel period.”
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to make safe driving decisions and help keep Illinois roads safe this Memorial Day weekend.
